The last September 29th, the festivity of Saint Michael’s Day was celebrated in Masia Duch. The celebration, which took place in El Tancat manor, gathered people very close to the family.
The first act of the celebration was a mass said outside the manor house. After that, all the guests enjoyed a meal and the Masia Duch’s new wines, which will be on the market soon (Bressol 2000, El Tancat 1999, Mellow Wine Masia Duch and Masia Duch Muscatel).
According to Delfín Duch, Masia Duch’s managing director, the reason why Saint Michael’s Day was the chosen date to host the celebration has to do with the certainty by which in El Tancat manor there was a chapel devoted to Saint Michael the Archangel. It is thought that the same monks from Escaladei’s Carthusian Monastery were the ones who had it built in this spot, since the place in which Masia Duch’s wines are elaborated nowadays was the chosen place by the eldest monks to retire. It was also the place from where the worker monk and the Prior administered the community’s goods. This fact reinforces the idea by which aside this privileged spot a hermitage was built. The tradition of solemnizing Saint Michael’s Day has been taken up again by Delfín Duch, in a way meant to be an act of continuity with the habits that took place in Masia Duch in the past centuries. |
