The formerly known as «Conrería de Scala Dei» owns its name to the conreu – cultivation land – of the monks of Escaladei’s Carthusian monastery. In the 12th century, once established in the primitive Carthusian monastery, the monks expanded their domains westwards, where soil quality is more fertile.
The order’s contemplative activities obliged lays to work in agrarian duties. Nowadays Masia Duch’s buildings complex were the lodgings of those employees in the service of the order. Therefore, lodgings, dining rooms and bedrooms were located next to the oil and grape presses, flour mill, the different stoves and the farm which supplied monks with food.
Our spirit to revive and go back to those constructions our ancestors left has moved us to restore those historical buildings by using the traditional building techniques of the original construction, combined with similar current ones.
The rigorous historical demands under which the architectural complex was renovated, and our most faithful respect for the original criterion of the building led the restoration works to be carried out by skilled craftsmen in an attempt to recall past centuries.
In Masia Duch we are very proud of the recovery of these buildings, which is a proof of the demand and excellence we require in all our projects. Taking care of the ancient house where monks obtained their esteemed wines, and where their quality increased, was our first purpose in 1985, when we started dreaming of the elaboration of our nowadays wine. |
