Reus, 14th February 2007.- Masia Duch, a wine producer from the Priorat wine region, has received two new awards for its wines this week.
The prizes were awarded by the judges of the Sélections Mondiales des Vins 2007 wine competition held in Quebec, Canada from the 5th to the 9th of February 2007.
Both awards are silver medals, one for Bressol 2000 wine, and the other for a new product, Escala d’Or, a sweet wine that will soon be on the market. This award attests to the high quality wines produced by Masia Duch under the Priorat DOQ quality wine denomination.
Wines from every region participated in Sélections Mondiales des Vins 2007 Canada, which is one of the longest running and most important wine competitions in the world.
These two new awards join those already won in other national and international competitions such as:

- Silver medal. Mundus Vini. Germany.

Masia Duch
In 1985 Masia Duch restored the abandoned “El Tancat” estate and in 1987 some of its two-hundred hectares were planted. The vineyards were restored with special attention to positioning the vines as they had been before and avoiding earth movements, as part of an ongoing effort to preserve the landscape of the Priorat region.
“El Tancat” is part of the former domains of the historic Carthusian monastery of Escaladei, and is located in the Montsant Natural Park.
“El Tancat” benefits from the Palaeozoic shale soils of the Priorat region and cultivates the land using natural fertilizers and treatments such as Bordeaux mixture and sulphur in order to produce a wine with organic attributes. With an average annual temperature of 15ºC, the region is home to Garnatxa (Grenache), Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot vines, the source of the El Tancat and Bressol wines, which have been produced since 1989.
The most distinctive feature of Masia Duch's wines is that they are produced exclusively from grapes grown in the winery’s own vineyards, which ensures consistent attributes year after year, improving only with the quality of the grape harvest.

BRESSOL
All the subtlety of the typical Priorat Garnatxa (Grenache) can be found in this elegant wine. On the nose, touches of crystallised fruit meet the youngest nuances of fruit. Its big, full taste is rounded off by the subtlety of the oak flavour acquired from its time in the barrel.
EL TANCAT
Although it enjoys subtle hints of Garnatxa (Grenache) and Merlot, it is the Cabernet Sauvignon that gives this wine its powerful body, full taste and distinguished aromas. Its intense red colour leads one to think that it will be a wine that lingers in the mouth. Its ripe fruit aromas join hints of vanilla imparted by its time in the barrel. This wine, although already well balanced, has a long future ahead of it. |
